Triad by Rudolf Belling

when i came across this statue of Rudolf Belling at Berlin i was magnetized and circled around it several times. those three abstract human figures seem like they dance, like there’s actual movement to the wood. Rudolf Belling achieved with this piece to unify the three major forms of art, painting, sculpture and architecture

this small video i took may give you an idea

shoe me belt me kiss me thrill me

viktor & rolf summer accessories may seem quite romantic at first site with all those flowers and bubble-gum colors but if you take a closer look this latex-kind of material half of them are made of , something between vinyl and rubber, gives a very weird sensation, something ill and a bit twisted, don’t you think? kinky and thus much more interesting

don’t you just love those zipper bracelets?

white trash

that’s the  name of the american-kitchen based restaurant that not one, not two, but three different people recommended me to visit in Berlin and so i did. the place introduces its identity at once with it’s name: chinese trashy decoration, kung-fu posters, dragon statues, a b-movie playing in the background, dim red lights, too much noise, margaritas and the best burger in the city, the best one i had in years. a great location for one of Tarantino’s movie-scenes i say. different bands play music every night and a party might come out of nowhere. Plus it has a tattoo shop and a smoking cinema.yeap. Joniffer, the red-haired rockabilly ‘White Trash’ star, accepted to pose for me- thank you love, i’ll make you a cover-boy one day, I promise.

and now a question: to use or not to use the bathroom?

20 years of Moschino

Twenty years of Moschino in the heart of Moscow. From April 1 to 30, 2010, the famous GUM department store in Moscow, whose long façade faces Red Square, will host “Inside Moschino,” a retrospective following the Italian brand through the years, from its foundation to the present day. A declared celebration of Moschino’s evolution from its beginnings until the S/S 2010 collection, told through its clothes and accessories, ad campaigns and boutique window displays.

The exhibition, housed in the central arcade of GUM, has an installation that recreates the entire Moschino world. It starts from the Moschino studio spaces in Milan continuing on to the boutiques, in a faithful reproduction of all the rooms and even including a literal recreation of the doors and windows. The installation is open;  in fact, there is no barrier separating the Moschino world from its visitors. They are free to observe how Moschino creativity comes to life and can participate in what takes place behind the scenes of the studio. Furthermore, each visitor will be able to be in direct contact with the collections, the ad campaign images and the window displays.

The window display scenes on exhibit will include two of Moschino’s unforgettable installations: “Assi e Ferri da Stiro” [Ironing Boards and Irons], displayed for the first time at the Moschino boutique on Via Durini in Milan in February 1999; and the recent “Lace,” featured in the window of the boutique on Via Sant’Andrea in Milan in February 2010.

At the centre of the exhibition is a selection of clothes and accessories starting from the historical archives to the more recent collections of Moschino, Moschino CheapAndChic and Love Moschino.  All set against a backdrop of ad campaigns for a truly artistic background.

left here put there for a limited time

with its arches and twin clock towers it’s made clear that Hamburger Bahnhof used to be a train station. now the museum of modern art in Berlin  has a collection that consists mainly of 20th century art pieces, of contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol and Paul McCarthy. Furthermore, i don’t think i’ve ever seen more weird titles of artworks gathered together before. Well, maybe at Dakis Joannou’s “Monument to now”.

crème fraîche

berlin is full of vintage shops where you can find anything you want, tons of 80’s clothes and accessories, all in very good condition and extremely good prices. while walking around i bumped into this vintage shop, quite different from anything else. The perfect store if your name is Barbie and you’re having a wedding in a Barbie World. oh how i’d love to grab my best girlfriend inside and try all the meringue dresses till next day

Barbie’s bridesmaids dresses from the asylum

and amazing 60’s silk dresses embroidered with crystals and beads. Look this magnificent handcraftlucky them the store was closed cause i would still be inside dressing up and taking photos.

it’s strange though cause i did find a pastry shop last year somewhere in Brooklyn, with cakes in the same colors and naked Barbies and Kens on the top!  i just had to take that picture back then and now i know why: a year after, the organizing of a perfect ceremony has been completed.

Helmut Newton Sumo

The Helmut Newton Foundation presented at Museum Für Fotografie what might just be the most spectacular and expensive photography book ever, ‘Sumo’. Ten years ago publisher Benedikt Taschen persuaded Helmut Newton to agree to produce a gigantic book with a print run of 10.000 copies, all signed by the photographer, accompanied by a custom-made book holder by Philippe Starck.

that’s the exhibition i went to see yesterday: all 394 photos on display, to mark the 10th anniversary of a photography publication that today is a much sought-after collector’s item.

apart from the pictures, there was also a small collection of Mr. Newton’s personal stuff, some well-known outfits and cameras, faxes and letters from his communication with fashion magazines and his wife June, and even a small representation of his apartment in Munich.

the famous patent leather Helmut Newton shoes and the ones Christian Louboutin made for him

to accompany this exhibition Taschen has published a smaller and revised version of the book for the regular book market.
